Debates are free and hurt no one....the extra 12 accounts one guy above bought just to have more points cost money...you do the math as to why some of us are not happy and don't kneel before the reps with gratitude when mistakes like these come about.

They've been trying to sort out and correct the problem with the new XTH thingie since it came up. And as for the lateness of their announcement of shutting it down, I would suspect that doing so was a "last resort" sort of thing so they could better concentrate on fixing the thing. No company in their right mind is going to take a popular part of their product line and shut it down without very good reason. (They kinda want to keep their customers, dont' cha know?)

Bravo.
Couldn't have said it better myself. One would have to assume that taking down the XTH would have been the last thought on their mind.

It's funny to watch how this thread turned into a "perma ban xth QQ" thread...
What I fail to understand is why Anet had to introduce a new design for xth, and how it completely broke everything. Couldn't they just keep debugging the first one until it is totally functional ?

Wow I think half the posts did get deleted. Oh well.
Agreed that they probably shut down the XTH as a last resort. They were probably hoping to get it fixed before the next tournament started, but obviously it didn't happen. So we're out two months' worth of points. GG. Regardless, I'd rather they fix it and get it working right than get rid of it altogether. Something else they should do - let PVE chars get armor from the tournament agent with points like the PVP players do. lol Just kidding. Might be cheaper but...yeah.

Just a quick reminder: we didn't post a timeframe for bringing XTH back up. Of course we want to put it back up as soon as we can, but we haven't published any specifics.

Thanks Regina, I think this thread needed that reminder.
I'm looking forward to the time when it's back up again and I can go vote ^_^

May's and June's? We're still going to get May's at some point... and I would expect ANet to have the problem corrected before July predictions...

They know that, Regina. But you have to understand: people on the outside of any authoritative spectrum often get into conspiracy-theory crafting.
Example: Customer sees an ad in the junk mail about a sale on a specific item in a market. Once they get up to the check stand, the normal price is shown instead of the sale price. The item that was on sale required the customer to have a certain loyalties card in order to recieve the benefit, and the customer neglected to read that part. Instead of being embarrased, they get angry, thinking that the store is trying to screw them out of a deal. And so the hysteria builds up as more customers hear him ranting.
Basically, the same thing is happening here: PvE'ers who spent RL money on extra accounts just to manipulate the prediction rewards are getting upset because they can no longer recieve benefits for something they believe they earned. It doesn't matter if you say that the XTH is down or screwing up or hacked; as long as the final answer is that they cannot reap the benefits they believe they deserve, they will rage and start theorizing conspiracies.

I am perfectly fine with the XTH being down and worked on, even though I love to predict and get tournament points.
Raging about it is beneath me, and I am only too happy that ANet is working on it, making it work good for everybody who uses it.
Gogo ANet XTH team!

How pathetic it is that a player have to do something like this?. Sugarcoated his/her words to please a game company in hope that they will be more likely to....what? Give you more freebies?
Oh, GW community.

Agreed. It's kinda sad to see some people trying to change the "customer-service provider" relationship to "slavery-master" or some kind of monarchy. It's just... pathetic.

I don't especially care that we aren't going to have June's MAT available for predictions, sucks but meh...
What just nibbles at the back of my mind is that the system that had already been working quite well, got taken down for something that is crashed and burned in spectacular fashion.
At least they are keeping us posted as best they can, which is a huge improvement over the SILENCE that we are used to.

Verbiage is poor, but there's some logic to the argument. Runs like this:
a) Player buys account with expectation of being able to cash in on freebies.
b) Game company takes said freebies away.
c) Player is upset because, given knowledge that game company would take away the freebies, player would not have made the decision to purchase account.
Of course, ANet has every incentive to restore XTH as soon as possible, so there's no need to worry. XTH and the Traveler sell accounts, plain and simple.
Long story short: they're taking XTH down because they've finally realized that they're expending tremendous support resources on the silly thing. Best solution for ANet is to come up with something that "works" consistently and make everyone "whole" after the fact with bonus zkeys.
Of course, they would be smart to precommit to that strategy with an announcement to silence the QQ and compel the programming team to follow through on it.

With all the chatter about the XTH being down for an undecided amount of time, I'd really like to receive the rewards for the May predictions now . I thought Regina said in post one of this thread that

What's the hold-up?
Or does the XTH being down also mean that the rewards won't be distributed?

You're right in your thinking, but what a lot of the QQers don't understand is this is a basic tenet of economics, called "Opportunity Cost". Do you buy the car with or without air con? Do I buy this computer now, knowing it's components may be out of date in a few years time? Do I buy this game now, knowing that parts or the whole may not be supported in years to come - as is the right of the game company under the EULA?
Some people take it way too personally.
